About Meitheal
Neighbours helping neighbours — the old way, made a little easier.
What "Meitheal" Means
Meitheal (pronounced roughly "meh-hall") is an old Irish word for a group of neighbours who'd come together to help each other with farm work — bringing in the harvest, building a barn, whatever needed doing. No one kept score. You showed up for your neighbour today, and they'd show up for you when your turn came. That idea — cooperation without a price tag on it — is exactly what this app is built around, just brought online.
Why This Exists
Most of us know fewer of our actual neighbours than we used to. Someone two doors down might have a ladder you need for an afternoon, or half an hour spare to help you move a couch, or just be someone worth knowing — and there's rarely an easy way to find that out. Meitheal is a small, honest attempt to fix that: a place to offer what you can, ask for what you need, and let a real local community take shape around it.
How It Works
- Share something — a skill, a spare hour, a tool, an event you're hosting.
- Ask for something — help moving, a hand with the garden, advice, anything at all.
- Connect locally — everything's built around your actual area, so you're meeting people genuinely nearby.
- Stay safe doing it — phone verification, reporting, and blocking are all built in from day one, not bolted on later.
A Small, Honest Project
Meitheal is independently built and still growing. It won't have every feature a big platform might — but everything in it is built with real care, and it'll keep getting better. If something's not working, or you've an idea that would make this a better place for neighbours to find each other, I'd genuinely like to hear it.
