Terms of Service

Last updated: [insert date before publishing]

Draft template — not legal advice. Have this reviewed by a solicitor before this app handles real users' data.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use Meitheal.

2. What Meitheal Is

Meitheal is a community mutual-aid platform connecting neighbours to offer and request help locally. We facilitate connections between members — we are not a party to any arrangement made between users.

3. Your Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate information when creating your account, including your real home address (which is kept private — see our Privacy Policy) and, if you give one, a phone number you can receive SMS codes on
  • Treat other members with respect — no harassment, hate speech, or abuse
  • Don't use the platform for illegal activity or fraud
  • Keep your account credentials secure
  • You must be at least 16 years old to create an account

4. Content You Post

You retain ownership of what you post, but grant us a licence to display it on the platform to other members. We may remove content that violates these terms.

5. Safety Disclaimer

Meitheal helps neighbours find each other — we don't vet the skills, identity, or intentions of members beyond what's stated in our verification badges. Use your own judgement when meeting people or exchanging help. Our current safety measures include optional phone number verification, a visible member-tenure and verified badge on profiles, the ability to report or block any user, and admin review of reported content. These measures support informed judgement — they are not a guarantee of anyone's safety, character, or reliability.

6. Account Termination

You can delete your account at any time in Settings. It is hidden straight away and deleted after 30 days, during which you can change your mind by signing in. In some cases we keep a limited safety record for a fixed period, as described in our Privacy Policy. We may suspend or remove accounts that violate these Terms.

7. Limitation of Liability

Meitheal is provided "as is," as a way for neighbours to find and contact each other. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Meitheal is not liable for the conduct of any user, the outcome of any interaction, help exchanged, or agreement made between members. Using the platform to arrange help, meet neighbours, or exchange skills is done at your own judgement and risk. This section is a general, temporary statement pending review by a solicitor familiar with your jurisdiction and insurance arrangements — it should not be relied on as final legal advice.

8. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Ireland.
